About the Evanston School Community

Evanston is nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Uinta Mountains at an elevation of 6,794 feet above sea level. The community is located on the banks of the winding Bear River in the far southwest corner of Wyoming. The growing city of approximately 12,000 people is the most southwesterly city in Wyoming. It is only three miles east of the Utah/Wyoming border and only an hour and a half away from Salt Lake City. Residents say Evanston's location is ideal in that it combines the advantages of living in a big city with the atmosphere of a small town. Precipitation averages 11.26 inches per year with a mean annual snowfall of 54.7 inches. For more information about what Evanston has to offer, call the Evanston Chamber of Commerce at 789-0370.

    Evanston Schools

The first public school opened on July 8, 1870 with eight pupils. Today's enrollment averages just under 3,000. Curriculum guides for each course, subject and grade level are continuously being developed and updated by a task force of teachers and administrators. Areas of emphasis are determined by the dictates of the community, students, teachers, administrators, and sound financial management.

The goals of achieving both educational excellence and a strong competitive co-curricular program of activities go hand in hand in the Evanston School Community. Evanston athletic teams are often contenders in State play-offs. During the past few years, several athletic teams have won State Championships. The Evanston School Community boasts award winning bands and choirs, drama groups, and speech and debate teams.

    School Safety

With many things happening across the nation in regards to school safety and security, Uinta County School District #1 is addressing this in three areas: Secure Vestibules, Concealed Weapons, and Visitor Management System. Each school entrance has been redesigned with a secure vestibule and buzz in system. The only way a visitor can enter the school after entering the secure vestibule is to be buzzed in by using an Aphone camera and buzz system. All entrances into the building will are locked at the start time of school each day. Upon entering the office, visitors will have two choices: 1)if they are only taking care of business in the office, they will take care of that business then leave; 2)if they are going to be entering into the school they will check into to a Visitor Management System called Raptor that will require a valid ID, and receive a printed badge with their destination and picture on it. If individuals are found in the building without a visitor badge, or an employee badge they will be escorted to the office in an effort to maintain the safety of all. The district has also implemented a product called SafeDefend in which each classroom throughout out the school has either had a safe or activation module which primary focus is for instant notification to be used only if an active shooter. Once a staff member activated this device, an instant notification is sent to dispatch along with text messages to all of our police officers and Sherif deputies, staff within that building and administration across the district. Once this notification is sent it indicate who set it off, which building and room that notification came from. Inside these safes you will find mace, baton, safety vest, whistle, flashlight, trauma kit. For more information about this system please click on the SafeDefend link: http://www.safedefend.com

The district will continue its commitment to school safety and security. The safety features added last year are being fine-tuned with procedures and protocols modified to be more efficient yet provide the level of security desired. These features include the controlled access with a single point of entry, the visitor management system with a national database search (Raptor), and the rapid notification system (SafeDefend) installed in every classroom and large common spaces throughout all of our schools.

Finally the Uinta County School District #1 Board of Trustees has passed a procedure to allow conceal carry for staff members. To learn more about what this entails please visit the following link: http://www.uinta1.com/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=2245695&type=d&pREC_ID=2321318

The safety and security of our students and staff is Uinta County School District’s highest priority. We ask for your continued patience as these safety/security features may cause you an inconvenience of additional time to access your student and/or the school. The inconvenience of time is well worth the additional security provided-. Please do not hesitate to call if you have questions or concerns.

    Sincerely,

    Ryan N Thomas, Superintendent

    Homebound Instruction & Manual

The Board of Trustees of the Uinta County School District Number One shall offer homebound instruction during the school year, while school is in session for each pupil in the district who is unable to attend school for more than five (5) consecutive school days, because of injury or illness. It may not be possible to provide a full-scale instructional program under these circumstances; therefore, subjects essential to a student's general progress will be the basis of the homebound instruction program.

Homebound instruction is a support to a student during a period of illness to allow the student to continue with the requirements of their course of study. Homebound instruction does not exempt the student from completing course work/curriculum required at the grade level.

For more information contact the Principal of your student's school.

    Multi-Tiered System of Supports

    Multi-Tiered System of Supports

Uinta County School District #1 Definition Of Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS)

A Multi-tiered System Support (MTSS) is a school wide prevention framework that integrates assessment and intervention to maximize student academic achievement and pro-social behavior. Response To Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) are examples of an MTSS framework.

Uinta County School District #1 is implementing an MTSS system that proactively identifies students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitors student progress, provides varying levels of support based on student need, and adjusts the intensity and nature of those interventions based on a student’s responsiveness.

By utilizing an MTSS frame work to address the needs of learners in our district we will better realize our vision that all students will be prepared to meet the demands of 21st century citizenship, careers and post-secondary education.
